Here's the answer that everyone should have given you:

DON'T WASH YOUR JEANS EVERY WEEK

Do I think people who go a year without washing their jeans are insane? Yes, but c'mon, washing your jeans every week is for old people in Florida wearing Union Bay jeans they bought at Bob's Store. Just deal. I've seen $10 dry Rustler's and $30 Levi's STF look very nice when well worn. There's really no middle ground for decent dry denim. It's either cheap (Rustler, Levis, H&M, Gap) or it's not. You get what you pay for.

Not always, but most of the time, yes. You generally only need to be worried about crazy shrinkage with dry, unsanforized denim. Admittedly, dry, sanforized denim is slightly a misnomer, but close enough.

Yes, but in my experience they will stretch back out to the pre-washed size.

That too. When you don't wash your jeans for at least a month at a time, tagged size and shrunk size become fairly irrelevant; what matters is the size it stretches out to for most of the period of wear.

I see nothing wrong with washing your jeans every week, but you can't have it both ways. The jeans will 1) not develop the crazy whiskers that people seem to got nuts over, 2) The jeans will not keep the "new" sheen. Of course, you can dry clean them every week, but that just sounds, well, weak. And the drycleaning will add up. And it will seem (and be!) overly fussy.

There used to be, on the 45RPM site, the "bio" of a guy who washed his 45RPMS regularly for years, and they turned out great. Some higing (it is inevitable after any amount of wear, washes or not) and lots and lots of fading. And patching, from subtle to contrasting, depending on his mood over 5 years. I personally give a cold soak in mild detergent every month or so.

that's what i was thinking of when i suggested jomons to the OP. not many jeans would still look good after weekly washes. maybe sc hawaiis, okis, or edos, they look good no matter what.

Yo gooner, just so you know if you're looking to buy some jeans from Uniqlo, they only make a washed selvage. In the states, there's no such thing as raw selvage. Uniqlo only makes a one wash jeans that aren't bad, I'l looking to get into a pair myself, but they aren't selvage jsut so you know.
