Is this Common for New AE Shoes?

I just bought these AE Hampsteads yesterday NIB from a retail store (discounted of course). Is the wear on the tip of the sole typical wear for only one day? I haven't even been out in the street much, just walking back and forth a few times to a car in a parking lot. If so, what should I do? Get those metal things tapped in?

thanks

It's normal. Toe taps will help if you walk in such a way that you wear out the toe too quickly.

Same thing happens with my leather soled AEs if I don't put taps on them right away.

It is normal wear for any shoe, not just AE.

All clothes and shoes 'wear'.
Leather soles are the skin of an animal, and can only withstand so much for so long.

Nothing stays 'new', nor was it meant to.
That is where regular maintenance comes into play:
  • Water will damage a shoe faster than wearing them will.
  • Wear them a few times, get either toe taps or TOPY's
  • Avoid wearing them in the rain unless TOPY's are put on.
  • Apply leather lotion to keep the leather pliable and strong & beautiful.
  • When the heel lifts wear almost to the leather sole, get them replaced.
etc

One last thought...
Furo your avatar is of a large fat man in a tiny car.
I don't know why, nor am I making assumptions or judgements.
If you are a large man or heavy, or assume bad posture while walking,
these are all things that will also contribute to premature wearing on any shoes.

Hope this helps

Congratulations on the purchase... Hampsteads are beautiful!

I bring mine a few times a year to be polished, and they darken the tips... God it looks brilliant!

The sole at the toe wears out on my AEs faster than most of my other shoes. I hate toe taps so I topy mine when they wear down. Topys aren't my preference, but, after all, they are only AEs.
