The problem lies with pop/rap fans. They dont like to see an artist grow so what you get is a lot of the same, while very skillful its still some 40 yo rapping about some weed he sold 20yrs ago over whatever production is hot this very second.

Detox is the Duke Nukem of hiphop.

jay should stick to being a business man. Reasonable Doubt to this day is still one of the illest albums I have ever heard, Blueprint was really good but one track (Jigga that ***** or whatever its called)ruined it for me. The Black Album was a really solid effort and he should have left after that. Kingdom Come was garbage (by Jay standards) and I like American Gangster but it's different and not a real album. BP will probably disappoint which is why I don't care about it.

I'm surprised a lot of you guys liked Stillmatic, I hated it and thought God's Son was better. Hip Hop is Dead was a horrible album, letting Chris Webber produce a track proves how badly Nas picks tracks for his albums.

that's not true at all. i liked american gangster a lot, i liked the black album as well. i'm not one of those people who says reasonable doubt was by far his best album. i just don't like the singles so far for BP3 (DOA, the song with drake, run this town, and the other one lol). For all the talk about how the production was going to be great, it's been extremely underwhelming

I think Jay-Z's music would be great if his monotone cacophonic voice could be removed from it.

do you actually think he likes making music anymore, save Reasonable Doubt??

his entire mentality can best be described in his one lyric:

"I dumb down for my audience and double profits."

When he was spitting that prolific sht no one outside of NY/NJ cared. Then he talked about bling and twat - 16 year old emo wiggers in the South and West bought his $$$$$$$$ht with mom's credit card = a home in Tribeca and a new one in Sutton Place.

you tell me if his next album will be a "creative" one, when he's eyeing a co-op on CPW.

They were dumbed down but still largely good albums. I think Blueprint was made to his highest capabilities at the time due to his beef with Nas and even his last album probably was also, just to hipsterish to be very good. He just doesn't have it in him to create Reasonable Doubt level material.

no offense dude i don't know you, but based on your assessment you're most likely one of the idiots who circle jerked with his buddies about the trash he produced post Reasonable Doubt. And to be honest, half of Reasonable Doubt wasn't even worth the hype. It was only put on a pedestal 'cause the The Source needed to write an article in an otherwise slowing genre (relative to '80's). In terms of unapologetic sardonic hubris and Mind = Blown type ****, you can't compare Jay to the likes of Big L, early Gang Starr, et al. But there is a sucker who'll always think he's hard and gully 'cause he's copped the new Roc-A-Wear trench, yet still lives at mom's. It's all business at this point, and he's a smart dude. He knows what demographic he's playing out $$$. His own kind. Personally I can only respect that, on a business sense though. If I want good music, I'll throw on some DITC.

Oh god, your one of "those" type of hip hop fans. Reasonable Doubt was a great album, so good in fact Biggie( undoubtedly another overrated rapper according your little group) felt he needed to step his game due to it. Big L was a good rapper but even while alive and in his among peers he was likely held in less esteem than Jay and I'm certain no serious rap fan thinks Guru a superior lyricist to Jay that's just silly.

Never listened to Jay-Z, or much rap in general, but I have to say I really like what he was saying in that death to auto-tune song.

Jay Z like all MC have already reach the maximum with Reasonable Doubt.
Then he get rally close with The Blueprint and The Black Album.
Right now, He is a good MC but don't expect an other classic album.
