I have never seen Letterman wear a sportcoat

until this evening. Anybody see this. Medium grey sportcoat with dark trousers tonight. A very different change for him which I kinda like.

He wore navy jacket and chinos with signature loafer & white socks before he hit prime time and moved to suits.

Back in early 80's a sport jacket was a common sight on his then bony frame.

Letterman in the 80's was a sartorial wreck - sportcoats with wrestling shoes. Of course he was funnier back then when Chris Elliot was a regular.

Yeah i was surprised too when he came out wearing a sport coat the other night

i hate those white socks he insists on wearing though

I don't remember seeing him in anything other than a DB jacket, which he usually leaves open. At most, he sometimes fastens the inside button. Incidentally, didn't he once get his tailor make him a suit during one of his shows? It might have been done over the course of several shows in the same week, I'm not sure. I think he also once mentionned that he gets his ties made.

was he wearing dark navy trousers or just another shade of grey?

i wonder how the darker pants to the lighter sportcoat look would work on me.

This is the first time I've noticed any late night talk show host wear a sportcoat, as opposed to a suit, in the 90s or 00s.

It looks very similar to the jacket from the suit Bill Cosby gave him.
