As per picture below, I often encounter this problem with canvas shoes. Have tried industrial super glue but the sides always come out after some time, despite the fact that I only wear them once a month.

any idea how to repair them to last longer?

Thanks!

Do they actually fit you correctly? That would seem to the result of undue pressure on them. In the alternate are they a cheap make best avoided?

In either event try a different make, no two manufacturer's sizes are the same.

Canvas shoes can be a major problem, no matter how well made they are. During my early career at sea we were obliged to wear leather soled white canvas uniform shoes with tropical uniform. The canvas always split after about 6 months or so. Always, and couldn't be effectively repaired. I never did find a successful method of protecting them or preventing this from happening.

These are Onitsuka Tigers. Definitely not a shoddy pair, and it fits me well.

I wasn't suggesting shoddy but are there any pinch points which are acceptable to you which in fact will destroy them as you have found. Most people have to make certain comprises when buying shoes and that might be the cause. Have you tried any other makes? Alternatives may get around this.

not really. I have tried various brands (e.g. fred perry, nike etc) and they exhibit the same issue after a few years (worn once a month).

anyway, the point of this thread is really to understand how to repair such shoes (i have at least 7 pairs now).
