How much do you spend on a tie?

Probably the most expensive I've gotten are two Panta ties for around $120, but considering they are unlined six-folds made of perfect silk, I am very happy with them. The average tie is probably around $60-70 or so, although I'll go down to around $20 or so for a J. Crew now and then.

Most of my ties are 6-fold Hober ties, so ~$130 for long lengths.

Enough said. If its $5 or if its $300 if I absolutely love it ill shell the money out for it. Doesnt mean I havent made mistakes in the past pre-sf but I still hold true to if I love it then the price I pay must justify how much I desire it.

I kind of wonder what you would consider a nice tie if you need to pay so much. I'm glad you can afford it though.
I have a couple of Tom Ford ties , Brioni , Stefano Ricci LUXURY label , a 95% wool Kiton (7 fold) , and Drakes among others. I'm curious to know what the good folks here would pay for these(All new).

It depends on the tie and why I'm buying it. About 10 years ago, when I used to do financial consulting, there was a definite hierarchy in the banking world that was also reflected in ties. Partners all wore Hermes ties, the guys a level below them wore other brands, etc. All the way down to the IT guys who got their ties free when they bought a JAB suit (or four). In this environment, the way you were received was strongly correlated with what tie you were wearing. If I showed up at a meeting in New York wearing a Hermes tie, the people that I was meeting with naturally assumed that I had a certain standing, etc.

This meant that I ended up getting lots of ties that I wouldn't otherwise take seriously. I really don't like Hermes ties, for example, but I used to have a few of them, and I paid a lot for them. Perhaps too much.

And I'd guess that things have changed a bit since I worked in the field, so there might be an entirely different pecking order today.

And when we lived on the east coast my wife and I would often go shopping at Neiman Marcus on weekends where I'd pick up Turnbull and Asser ties from time to time. At the time I believe I paid $95 for them. I'm sure they cost more now. But that was a price that I would pay because I liked the tie. Come to think about it, I don't recall ever really looking at the price on the ties I'd buy an NM. If I saw a tie I liked I'd just buy it. Now that I have two sons in college, those days are gone, of course, but I probably have enough time to last me pretty much forever at this point.

I feel like this is true in the law world as well, where law firm partners gravitate toward Hermes and Ferragamo. Associates are more likely to be wearing Brooks Brothers.

Depends on the ties and the prices...but I'm quite sure, with prices in consideration, that you would sell out in this order:

Drakes
Tom Ford
Kiton
Brioni
Ricci

again, thats considering a reasonable price for each of them. Put them on on B&S and lower the prices until someone bites. Drakes generally start at around 80-90 dollars on there. Tom Ford a little more.

this is what im paying for brionis recently bought a few at needless markup last call for 69 a piece one on ebay for 75 and one for 60 I think from a seller here all very nice ties .. id say that 70-85 is a sweet spot for finding a good price on otherwise expensive tie brands (180-250 retail ties)

Thanks for the tip. I don't know if this is the appropriate place for this question but I would like to know how buyers on this site typically pay for things and can you sell only to a shipping address within the CONUS? I didn't see any thread about this. I have a bunch of high quality ties among other items to sell which I would prefer to sell to the folks on this site rather than on e-bay, I'm just unsure how to go about it. Also is there any problem with scammers on this site(I don't mean to suspect any of the usual members) and how to protect myself?

The most I've ever spent on a tie was likely in my pre-SF days (probably close to $200).

That being said, I would pay $$$ for a rare tie, like the ones from the James Bond movies (TF era).
