Small-time lurker here.
I've put a $50 cap on ties for myself (which is kind of pushing it), but I'm dealing with champagne taste on a beer budget. However, thanks to diligently checking saved ebay searches I've managed to build my small collection with Turnbull & Asser, Charvet, and Isaia. Maybe once I build up the rest of my wardrobe I'll put more money into ties. Two years ago I was wearing graphic tees, cargo shorts and athletic socks everyday so I've still got some basics to cover. Till then I'm content to wear my navy twill 90% of the time.
