I'm keeping up the running part of my program, and in fact doing a bit more because the pool I swim in is closed for renovations until October...

It's weird when you restart after a few months. The first day is like 'hey, this is isn't as bad as I thought it would be' and for a few days you get quicker again. Then it starts to be hard and tedious. Really hard and really tedious. I guess this is when a lot of people give up again...

@FlyingMonkey ”Run slow now to run fast later” my man. Going out each day running at anything above a ‘conversational pace’ is a recipe for distaster, especially when you’re just getting back into the swing of things. Your body doesn’t give a **** about mileage, only duration and intensity. Provided that your form is relatively decent, you’ll see perpetual gains by running 80% of your weekly mileage easy — building mitochondrial density, capillary beds, neuromuscular adaptations, while reducing stress on your CNS. You might actually look forward to your runs too!

I agree - I think there was a conversation about this earlier in the thread. Not everyone does agree here BTW, but in general I am concentrating on relaxed, easier pace and gradually increasing the distance again. I only ever run really fast when I do hill repeats or intervals and that's practically never these days.

4 miles last night with the dogs, with a mile at tempo pace and the rest at marathon pace. Temps were in the upper 50s.

On when you go to Japan FM

True, true. And that was very painful last time... I've got in touch with a mountain-running group - interesting longer routes and not all about speed but the journey - and next time I am back, I think I'm going to do that rather than the track training.

If you’re running hilly trails, that will help speed as well. I was at my fastest when I was trail running 2-3 days per week.
