I think Fueco's expression reflects that runnin', ridin', and fishin' is SRS BSNS. Also that selfies do not spark joy.

You know what does spark joy? Catching beautiful trout in the Wilderness. These were the last two I caught today, and the Greenback Cutthroat is only the second I’ve caught (oddly enough, I caught the other one two years ago in the next hole downstream).

In my defense, I’m operating on two hours of sleep last night. You all sure are in ****** moods for a Friday.

Oh, mileage... I didn’t bring my Garmin today, but I’d guesstimate 2 miles of running and 9 miles of walk/hiking. The last bit was to join my wife and kids and dogs playing in the open space near home.

Weather wasn’t scorching hot today so I wasn't dying In the sun. Managed a new PB on 400m sprint. Got down to 64.9 and I felt like I slowed quite a bit on the final 100m. 60 second goal is getting closer.

I was supposed to do a 10.6km (6 1/2 mile) tempo today at 4:18/km (6:55/mile) pace.

However... I felt a distinct twinge in my right hamstring around the 3km mark, so I stopped at the turn (5.3km). At that point my time was 23:05 (or 4:21/m or 7:00/mile), a little slow, but that includes my usual 1km wind-up and whatever effect my hamstring was having. So, I just jogged back at recovery pace - the return leg was 32:16 (6:05/km or 9:47/mile), not that it matters...

...except that I noticed that this pace was now so easy that my mind was wandering and I actually forgot I was running sometimes*. This time last year, I was struggling to keep to this same just over 6:00/km pace that's now way too easy even with a leg injury, on 'long runs' that weren't actually that much longer than today's total distance. This pace would only be a pace I ran at now in training if I was doing something like 40km (25 miles).

So I looked at my other records for that time: in July last year, my steady pace was 5:30/km (8:52/mile) for a maximum of 10k (6 miles) and my tempo pace was 5:00/km (8:03/mile) for around 6.5km (4 miles) - I don't even run distances that short for those categories any more, but if I did my pace aim would be 4:30/km (7:15/mile) and 4:14/km (6:48/mile) respectively.

I also weighed almost 70kg (154lbs) and as of today I am 62.5kg (137 3/4lbs)

So it's fair to say, I've made significant improvements over this year.

This is a long way to say that I think I feel okay taking a week off to let my hamstring recover! I'll get out on my bike tomorrow instead of my planned long run and do nothing else except a bit of casual swimming and using the roller on my legs, until next weekend.

*This reminds me about what @Dusty Heaters was saying a few pages back about his frustration with certain paces being too slow. It's all relative and depends on goals, fitness, age, distance and whatever, but yes, once you have the experience of what paces should feel like, you can certainly feel it when a pace is just not doing anything (although in this case, recovery, that's exactly what I wanted!)

10.3 miles this morning including some time at the track. I got a later start than I planned so it had warmed up quite a bit.

Afterwards, my wife drove me to the Jeep dealership to pick up my Rubicon after getting some work done and then I took the kids to a big park nearby to check out the hiking trails. We only did about a mile before they started complaining about the heat and the bugs so I caved and took them home and gave them ice cream for lunch.

Domestic day. Laundry, house upkeep, lawn maintenance. Was going to take the day off but then these showed up. Had to take the new Saucony Endorphin Speed’s out for a little test. Love this colorway too.

•3.3mi, 7:39 pace, 149bpm.
•Sunny, 93F, 60% humidity, 102F real feel.

So how did they feel?

I'm quite interested in this new range from Saucony since they claim to have all the advantages of the Nike things but are slightly cheaper and twice as durable (not that 200 miles is that durable, but still...).

7 miles last night with my closest run in with a car in a while. Noticed to slow draw to the side of the road that happens when texting. Got to the side of the road and chucked my water bottle as hard as I could into the side of their car. They stopped and apologized and I lost my temper but finished my run.

Tonight was 10.8 miles in a looping fashion around the neighborhood with water stops at home. Hottest day of the year so far and was brutal.
