I live in the Hollywood Hills, near Lake Hollywood and the Hollywood Bowl. I have the bottom half of a bootlegged duplex with a nice view of the city. It's a fairly spacious one bedroom unit with a big deck (bigger than my living room) and a huge 70's-era mirrored bathoom with a giant jacuzzi tub that would easily fit four. I've only managed three.

Its a great complex, but unfortunately this is just not a place that suits me, so I am likely to move again in the next couple of months. Its about 700 or 800 sq foot I guess.

I live in this new estate area outside Saigon (called Saigon South or Phu My Hung), which I loved, but they putting a highway slapbang through the middle of it, so I am likely to move back into town.

In which case I will most likely end up in a 2 bedroom townhouse type thing - lounge room at the bottom, kitchen at the back, 2 br on the second floor (1 will probably have no window, the other a big balcony) and hopefully a nice rooftop. Most Vietnamese houses are like this, the only variable is how many floors (and therefore bedrooms) you want.

If you don't mind my asking, what are average rents like in Vietnam? I spend alot of time in Thailand and am curious to see if they are the same or even cheaper.....

I would say it's not a hovel as far as NYC apartments go, and if it is a hovel, it's a very well-organized one.

I live on a 1BR ground floor duplex of a 1901-built brownstone in the Upper West Side that is about 650-700sqft. It's got 1.5 baths, a brick wall and a nonuseable fireplace on one side upstairs, and has decent closet space. It's not nearly as cool as it sounds, but it's a pretty nice place for someone to live by themselves in. I used to cook a bit more, but I've gotten lazy and now I get a lot of takeout, and of course, spend way too much time working.

I currently live in a cramped dorm room (don't ask for square footage, I'd probably cry if I knew), with shoes and clothes hanging/stored wherever there is space.

The mothership is a ~3500 sq. ft. colonial built in 1997. Finished basement, cathedral ceilings in the living room, formal sitting parlour, dining room, 2.5 baths, 4 BR.

Pretend the women in Montreal hit on you while you were riding public transportation. It's that good.

Three years ago I moved from a 1200-square-foot house in Southern California to a 4400-sf house in middle Tennessee. Now I'm selling the current house, and later this year I plan to move to a <1200-sf condo in Chicago. I've worked from home full-time for about six years (more than half my professional career), but when I get to Chicago I'll be returning to corporate headquarters of the company I currently work for.

Should be an interesting transition all around.

That wasn't my experience while I was in Budapest, although, I was only there for three days. Besides wanting to go back to visit the mineral baths, and the great market at the end of Vaci Utca, I will have to increase my vigilance for the opposite sex.

I live alone in a ~500 sqft studio apartment in a downtown Houston hi-rise. It's a good deal smaller than my money could buy elsewhere in town, but location means everything, and the fact that I can walk a block to work every day (not being affected by gas prices and Houston's infamously bad traffic) and not ever have to pay for parking make it worthwhile. The one bummer is that downtown Houston is sort of a joke, with a terrible retail and restaurant selection, establishments that are either closed for nearly all non-weekday afternoon hours, and a lack of any sort of street traffic (except aggressive bums) outside of the 9-5 working population and the weekend nightclub kids. Of course, I work too much to let this bother me, and I do relish the fact that I can live by myself in a central and safe location (little-no worry about weather damage and flooding, burglars, car break-in's, home invasions), which is all I really need. Hopefully when I have some more free time I'll post some quick pics of my apartment in the Fine Living forum.
