I wear vintage suede loafers with a low vamp pretty exclusively come summer months.

I saw several recommendations for loafers and drivers in this thread. There was no mention of boat shoes in the OP, and you didn't express your dislike for them until later.

I personally like Venetian or moc-toe loafers/drivers. I'm trying out espadrilles a la TOMS this summer, too. :p

correction, 1. not many people on here consider boat shoes "old manny" 2. no desert boots does not equate to no boots in general 3. most of the sneakers requested for you here are not even athletic ones

To the OP, I'm not sure what type of in-between look you're going for, but I'd say it depends on what type of gear you already have or plan to purchase. What kind of sneakers do you have? If you have trainers and new balances, you can upgrade by getting a nice canvas lace-up or low-profile shoe...many brands to choose from.

The ubiquitous sperrys are a good option as well as the quoddy's posted on the first page. Those Paul Smiths that someone posted above are very nice, but your look (jeans/trousers/shirts) should be well-fitted/tailored to delve into the the loafers and leather oxfords.

okay, for those who care, this store has a happy ending. i had searched and searched for so long i basically gave up and decided to try on a pair of clarks desert boots. so i went to the clarks store today and found these:

the desert khan in 'beeswax'. apparently they have been discontinued, and i'm disappointed because though i've only had them on a short while, they are great--far more comfortable than i expected. i would love to have a pair in dark blue or dark grey.

fwiw, i tried on the desert boots but did not like the way they fit around the ankle, and as i mentioned, i have an aversion to boots.

As constant struggle predicted, your new shoes are much less attractive than the Quoddys he posted. FTL.
