I have noticed my overuse of the dash growing steadily more acute as I get older. I, too, blame the internet. I used to adore the semicolon, but now I find it slightly stuffy. A punctuation mark that just needs to loosen up a little. The dash, though, is a little too informal, and maybe needs to act its age once in a while. So, basically, the dash is SW&D, the semicolon is MC. Anyone with me?

semi-colons scare me. they are neither comma nor colon, now what good can come from them?
