Have you ever been to Russia?

The brother of a friend of mine is stuck in Russia. He adopted 2 kids in Russia when they were 2 and 3, while he was working there. 10 years later his work is done, and he wanted to move back to the US, but the Russian government won't let him leave with his adopted children. So he's stuck there until they are both 18 and can move on their own. It's quite sad.

Interesting.
While living in Russia,
my nephew and his wife addopted three Russian children.
When the family decided to move back to America --
about five years ago --
there was no problem bringing the children.

Recently they made a visit to Russia.
Each of the three children commented separately
about their former friends.
"They don't look like we do."
"They look different."
"We're not the same anymore."

I've been to Russia 5 times in as many years and have great memories. Unfortunately my time in Russia was for work (I'm a musician), so out of our 4-5 days in the country (we played Moscow, St Petersburg & Samara) we only had a day and a half off each time in Moscow.

The people we met while we were there were some of the best promoters we've dealt with and were super accommodating, although they seemed to be very cut-throat amongst eachother, even if they ran together.

In April I had a 3 week tour lined up, and of the many stops across Europe & Russia, I was most looking forward to the shows in Spb & Moscow. I made sure the tour was planned with a few days off after each of those stops so I could take in a bit more of the city (alot of times we'll fly into a city late afternoon, check into the hotel, go to the club, if were lucky get another hour or two sleep at the club, then head back to the airport to go to the next city). Anyways, the morning I was flying to London for the first show the volcano erupted and the tour was cancelled. Bummer.

A negative thing I can say about it is anyone there in a any type of position of authority will flaunt it to try to **** with you. I've been stopped a handful of times for no reason by a security guy who will inspect my passport and start angrily grilling me in Russian. Once my Russian tour manager sees, he'll yell back at the guy and it'll be okay.

Also, the girls in Russia (and eastern Europe in general) are the best looking girls on the planet. Everyones a supermodel, even the girl selling pretzels on the street is a 9/10.

I haven't been yet, but I've heard there's a lot of discrimination against East Asians (probably because of labor tension). Any truth to it? Last thing I want to do is piss off a drunk Russian.
