I'm wrong then, I thought you could have a thin line of white showing. My experience with white tie is limited to doing some work in a rental shop, Fred Astire, and Bertie Wooster.

Can't find a news story, but it was something like Pea soup, Argula and spring greens salad, Lamb...

Note the turndown collar:

And he was also wearing that ubiquitous American flag lapel pin.

He also had a clip-on tie that needed a bit of tightening on the band.

Whenever Bush's in a suit he walks as though he's sheltering a couple of mangos in his armpits. Either that, or his underwear seems 3 sizes too small

What's the significance of the blue sashes that the Queen and Prince Philip are wearing?

Prince Philip looks impeccable. Who is his tailor?

I wonder how long the Queen wore that crown/tiara. Looks like it would be too heavy to wear for an extended period of time but I admittedly know next to nothing about the degree of comfort associated with wearing large amounts of jewels on my head.

Wow, those pants are truly atrocious. Unlike the Prince, he's not wearing them at his natural waist, and so they look horrible. The Prince appears to be shorter than the President, yet his pants are higher up, and look impeccable (his whole outfit is impeccably done). Maybe it's the lighting, but the colors of the two gentlemen's suits aren't even similar -- Prince Phillip's is a far richer and nicer black. It truly looks like Bush is wearing a rental.

It has nothing to do with politics.

This is Style Forum, and we are just discussing white tie worn by Royalty and Presidents.

It seems sometimes that no one criticizes GWB more than I.

But invariably it is for the implementation of his policies. I say implementation, because many times it's not the policies but how they have been implemented.

Think of McCain's statement about GWB being served poorly by his VP and DOD Sec.

Now to the subject at hand. GWB looks OK. Not outstanding or superb, but certainly acceptable. And Laura looks just fine too. The Bush's are not trying to be English Royalty! And the Queen and Prince Phillip are not about to try to be regular old people from Texas.

There were a lot of "Texas Royalty" at the affair. Like Rich Kinder, the Farish's, and Anne Armstrong, and they didn't look any better than GWB.

Prince Philip isn't showing sleeve either, and he looks like he should be wearing a monacle. Bush's pants are awful, yes. (One shoulder looks much higher than the other, also.) Of course, as is true in most formal settings, the women's attire draws more attention, masking the men's mistakes to most. And Laura Bush's dress is quite unflattering.

GWB does not look comfortable in white tie. The garment is wearing him. My question is, why does the Leader of the Free World not have a tailor??!!
