re Ron Dennis, he was criticizing teams like Sauber, not defending them. His point was that McLaren never spends enough to endanger the overall operation.

You could be right about the profit-taking, but I don't think you are.

Virgin came in more on the basis of restrictions on spending than on the promise of equitable distribution of revenue. Mosley sold them a bill of goods, and by the time that was confirmed, they were already committed.

Even so, you run a business, you have a right to a profit if it exists. For me, F1 is a **** investment. I don't understand Haas getting involved. Just look at Toyota's endless resources and what did they get? A couple of Jarno Trulli podiums?

Dennis can talk that **** because he has the resources. If Sauber spent within a profit model like Macca does, they'd be outside the 107% rule.

Agreed. No one is in F1 for rational reasons. It's a pure passion play that some have managed to make profitable after many years of not being profitable.

What you say about the 107% rule is exactly why Ron is full of ****. If they don't spend, they go out of business. They have to bet the farm in order to keep the farm.

Good race today and good drive by Lewis making his tires last for so long. Ferrari and their pit stop strategy is a real head scratcher...

Decent race. Ferrari thought they had a full virtual safety car segment to negate the pit lane speed. It was a reasonable gamble considering they likely lacked pace.

That new turbo does indeed seem to be a quality step forward for Ferrari.

_______

Turn 1, lap 1. Isn't that rule specific about leaving space? Rosberg was completely along side. No investigation? Strange. Seems the rule has no meaning. If I was Rosberg I would have let Hamilton crash me. Along side? Absolutely entitled to a car's width. For Hamilton, looks like that Bieber juice is revitalizing.

_________

Lastly... that Mercedes cannot follow a car. It's designed for clear air to a fault. Rosberg suddenly looking like a guy that can't win a gifted championship.

Ferrari: Vettel said they just didn't think the tires would last that long based on practice/simulation. I guess you have to trust your data...

Turn 1: I don't think the stewards are inclined to judge intra-team clashes. Probably figure the team boss will sort it out unless it's a championship decider. That said, did Nico really think he was going to make that work? When I'm racing, the stakes are nil, and I would neither allow someone to have that nor try to take it.

Mercedes: Just like RBRs of old!

NBC's preemption silliness this weekend meant I had to wait for a downloaded stream to see the race this morning. Sky is much less annoying than NBC...

The race was moved to NBCSN instead of regular NBC due to the Orlando shooting coverage. I'm glad they still showed the race live in its entirety on one of their channels since this is one of a few races being shown at a decent hour in America.

Right, but of course my DVR didn't know that. And when I set it up to record the NBCSN rebroadcast in the afternoon, they had on instead golf, then MMA.

Not sure how you'd like NBC to solve that. Anyway although I recorded the race I was able to catch it live on NBCSN due to the coverage switch. Unfortunately my DVR still has what I recorded on NBC so I can't rewatch the Rosberg-VErstappen scuffle

Same here. Luckily, I managed to get all my morning errands done and was able to plop down in front of my TV 10 minutes before the race started to see that NBC switched channels.

I would like NBC to resolve that by not indulging the obsessive coverage impulse. I realized that I am unlikely to be satisfied in that desire...

Actually, if they had just stuck with the scheduled rebroadcast, it would have been fine. It was the decision to show golf and MMA that truly fucked me.

you guys could try to download torrents too. They are usually Sky coverage.

I don't think the 1st corner incident required an investigation, because Hamilton was just following the racing line and it was Rosberg that had the responsibility to back out. Also when their wheels touched, there was more than a car's width remaining on the outside, so it was not like Hamilton pushed Rosberg all the way out to the outside leaving zero space. Finally, the incident didn't end up in an actual collision so essentially, there was no incident to investigate.
