Bought a black loafer once. Once. Not enough punch for a suit. Too formal for a casual wear.

I tried on Edward Green's in last 202 and was a size 8.5UK. Yesterday, I bought a pair of Chelseas in Black in UK 8.5 and a pair of Berkeleys in Dark Oak from Skoaktie. I just realized the Chelseas are width E and the Berkeleys are width F. The shoes I tried on at the store were width E.

What are the chances that both pairs of shoes will fit?

You will find the F width too loose unless you wear them with very thick socks but then these are dress shoes so you may want to concider changing the size! The 202 is normally a nice comfortable last anyway so stick with your normal size.

Those are pretty beaten. Close to a resole?

Anyway, I would first clean them with Saphir Renomat, then apply some Saphir renovateur followed by a 2 coats of mid brown saphir cream and a coat of saphir mid brown wax.

It all depends on what you want to accomplish. I think you might be better off using Bick 4 or a mild conditioner instead of Renovateur, if you want to accentuate the existing patina. Reno will definitely remove layers of polish. If you want to remove some polish and try to get a more even base, go with Renovateur. If you want to remove even more of what's there in terms of polish and color, use Renomat. Best of luck!

I'm not sure. If they are close to a resole then even a 50$ is too much. Resole these days including postage in both ways can cost min. $300 in their Factory, meaning (300+129=429$).

I wouldn't give EG to a local cobbler to change a sole, as it would not be a EG "anymore".

Even after the Factory resole you would have someone's worn shoes as for a $429 you could purchase a Edward Green pair on ebay worn 2 times which is not yet broken in and you would be practically a original owner.

When shoes in this condition I would not purchase them at all as there is a lot of time, money and energy to be invested only to bring them into decent shape, and they would still have a history of someone else's wear.

Only you can determine that.

For some, they would never buy used shoes in the first place.

For some only a factory re-sole would be appropriate.

Are you happy?

This is the only thing that matters.

^ good post.

In respect of buying used EGs, can the factory do a full refurb and make any kind of previous wear minimal? Or will the upper always have the creases across the vamp per the original owner?

And if you just want new sole and heel then find someone competent instead of going to EG, factory refurbishment all cost quite a bit money these days
