So they decide to come up with this
If you are going to spend $5k, the Ayre universal CX-5MP is much much better made and sounding.
You've had a chance to compare both side-by-side?

The concept of $5K Ayre dvd players and $40K ML pre-amps has always eluded me
Hehe. It's a digital disk reader. Nothing more. If it sounds any different from any other than it's a worthless, broken *************.
Most people use the Ayre for music playback. It's hard to convince you of the value of high end electronics unless you are familiar with the improvement in sound they offer. It's just like anything else like a fine wine or a Rubinacci suit. The better stuff is more time consuming to make and involves more expensive parts. The law of diminishing returns kicks in after around $10-20K in component cost so I'm not sure I would go for the $40K preamp even if I had the money. The $10K Audio Research Ref 3 beats all the Levinson preamps I have heard. It's a bit like bespoke shoes...until you have done it and feel the comfort $3K seems like crazy money to spend on a pair of shoes. P.S. I have the Mark Levinson sound system in my Lexus. It's not close to what the Ayre offers.
Get back to us when you understand how analog output circuits and minimum phase filters work.
The AF force is strong in this post.
Do you have any evidence that high end components don't use better parts or are more time consuming to make?
