Yes, rep/repp is the term, but I avoided using it because it has caused some confusion in the past: some people erroneously think "repp" to refer to the stripes rather than to the silk's texture.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

No worries and yes your right, it is certainly a misused term but probably if you said a repp weave rather than repp stripe you would hopefully be ok. Anyway that thinner twill you described is usually only used for printed silks so as long as its a woven then you are more than likely going to be ok.

Patrizio sells solid reppe silk ties so you could ask him if the regimentals use the same kind of weave. However, I doubt there are woven regimentals made of twill, they are almost always reppe

Can anyone give basic guidelines on choosing construction and lining for the various fabrics they offer? What's more appropriate for silk twill, linen, wool challis, cashmere, knit, and grenadine? I know some of this is up to personal preference, but I imagine most of it is a matter of long experience.

I received my Cappelli shipment today, and I'm rather confused. One of the ties in my order was this one http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=55&products_id=852 which in the description appears to be a 3-fold, but the one I received was a 5- or 7-fold. Also, it did have stains on it, and since it's bright, they are visible.

The next problem was that I also ordered seven pocket squares:
1. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1560
2. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1561
3. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1562
4. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1563
5. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1564
6. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1565
7. http://www.patriziocappelli.it/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=1566

The description says that they are 40x40cm, but the ones I received all are 30x30cm. Is this normal? Are they in fact 30 (wrong info on the website) or did I get unlucky with seven pocket squares?

I have filled the "contact us" form. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for them to get back?

I have no experience with the "outlet" ties, unfortunately. However, if there are stains I would definitely send it back. As for the pocket squares, it clearly said they're 30x30cm when I opened the links. Apart from the stains, I wouldn't complain if I got a 5- or a 7-fold instead of a 3-fold

Yes, it says 30x30cm now, because they just changed it. I received a very fast answer from Patrizio who acknowledged and apologized for this and offering a refund.

As for the tie, it was a 7-fold. I like it, but a 7-fold on this heavy silk makes the tie maybe a little to heavy as it has some lining also.

As for the stain, take a look yourselves, would you send it back?
The whole tie: http://imageshack.us/f/19/v09i.jpg/
The stains: http://imageshack.us/f/839/8e7t.jpg/ the stains are at the upper left and two small spots at the lower middle part of the tie.

Am I being to picky?

Ah, I see.
Personally, I don't think the stains are a big worry (they are hardly noticeable), but that's just me. If you like the tie as a whole I would keep it as it came at a good price due to being an outlet tie. I definitely think it's within your right to return it though seeing as there are spots, and if the 7-fold makes it too thick that might be a deal breaker for you. If you had paid full price for this, I would send it back and get a new one without a doubt, but that might not be possible with an outlet tie due to limited stock?

At the end of the day, if you're bothered by the spots I think you're going to dislike the tie and stop wearing it. But if you can live with them, I think it's a great tie for a great price!

Thank you for your input. Patrizio have offered me to return it. I, just as you, think the stains hardly noticeable. I just wanted to confirm this with you. I'm more worried about the weight of the tie. Although it's not TO heavy, I hate a gap between the tie knot and the shirt collar. With a tie heavy enough the tie wont hold up hiding the gap. I guess I'll try it on at home for a day to see whether it bothers me or not. Although, I'm leaning towards keeping it as I don't have the time to bother myself contacting UPS to ship the tie, wait for the refund for postage, wait for another tie etc.

As for the pocket squares he has offered me to return them also or accept a discount of €5 each, making it a total of €35. As the silk is structured I think the pocket squares will hold up well in the pocket, even at 30x30 cm.

On an overall note, I've had a very pleasant experience with Patrizio and his business. I will definitely purchase from him again. On a side note, I wish he offered better pictures and descriptions of the colors.

Thank you for your time.

I agree, Patrizio is a great guy - the best solution is to visit him in Naples, look at the silks in person and have some pizza with him :)
