Hi - sorry for the catchy title I needed as much advice as I could gather...
Also: yes it's about denim but not streetwear, so I chose this category on purpose instead of the "Streetwear and denim" one.
Adrien here, French creative living in London, lover & friend of sartorial and shirts. Thanks for reading.
-> I'm in quest of what is for me the perfect denim shirt, could you help me out? :
I'm looking for (the references of) a specific denim fabric that I can't really find on the sartorial world. Perhaps it's because it doesn't belong to it or it is seen as too "streetwear", but nonetheless I'm craving for a WilWhitingly beautiful sartorial-fit denim shirt in *that* fabric.
The actual main trend is the infamous beautiful brushed Japanese denim shirt.
You can see it on the "A" shirt I'm wearing below, a beautiful Japanese denim button down from Besnard.co (great company, couldn't recommend more) (Please disregard the difference of craft with Besnard's perfect collar, fit and sleeves; and the poor ones from AA. Not the point here). It's a refine and soft, light fabric, that ages well (I'm sure they do but I must admit I never seen an example of one that is aged to be honest). Generally I found with these types of fabrics that the blues, whichever shade they are supposed to be, seemed a bit washed out or tend to be a bit grey looking.
The "B" shirt is an American Apparel one (I know I know), which is the closest to what I'm looking for in terms of fabric: It's a heavier fabric, not brushed, somehow when worn the feel is even softer than the Japanese denim one; and add 10%-20% more sheen to it. Also quite importantly the blue is a deep azure-like beautiful blue.
I'm really looking for that heaviness in the cloth, the softer feel, that deep happy / almost electric blue, and that sheen-boost.
I must stress that's I'm *not* talking about heavyweight denim, Levis' cowboy shirts or Polo Ralph Lauren ones; although it's on the road between sartorial 1000Hands Japanese denim sartorial lushness, and those.
All advice are welcome - unless you want to say something along the lines of what a mean pedantic tailor told me when I came to him: "you should go to Uniqlo" - I'm sure you guys know way more than I do about fabrics and brands.
Many thanks
Adrien
