Can any horsehide experts say if this issue with the uppers warrants a return? This is my fourth rebuild (original order was Jan 2020). I’m also concerned about the size. This is my second pair in the #38 last and the 11E on the bounty Hunter is completely different. Also, the heel counter not only seems too small, it’s also bulging out.

That definitely doesn’t like like the 38 swing last.

Planning my next casual build. I’m thinking of going with the Vibram 700, 430, or 269 sole this time around ( vs the commando half sole I have now). Is any one of them any softer than the other ones?

Appreciate the reply! I’ve emailed Baker’s and requested a return.
I hope they get it right for you this time. I’m not overly impressed with the leather they used on the upper either. Looks like a ton of veins or loose grain or something. I don’t think the counters look too bad though.

I think that's just the nature of horsehide. The leather looked good to my eye

There is no loose grain on those. Horsehide is known and sought after for that heavy patterning.

Today I learned that Distressed Smooth is actually called Dirty Brown Crazy Chief by Seidel.

Subsequently, I also learned that the Seidel Rep that manages the White’s account is as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
Screen door on a submarine ?? submarines - a marvel of Engineering!

I like the leather on those. That bulge on the one boot looks...interesting to say the least, and I'm also not crazy about those eyelets being so close (overlapping?) with the stitching on the facings.
