so, what is the cheapest place to buy C&J online for US customers? I'm looking for Sydney loafers and don't want to pay $550 USD + Tax.

Any advice would be great.

Now that Pediwear seems to be better stocked, I ordered a pair of Chadwick 2 for 450GP....seems like a lot more then I had seen on their site in general..

Anyone care to comment on the how, if at all, elongated the 358 last is?

C&J seems to have really enhanced its brand over the last couple of years.

I went to the store off 5th ave recently and it was packed with customers, way more than I would expect for a small side-street boutique selling traditional men's shoes. Frankly I don't think I've ever seen a men's shop as crowded. I've also seen several people at work wearing various identifiable models like the Clifford, Belgrave, Sydney, etc.

Can't all be due to Wall Street II, can it? Have they been marketing heavily in GQ etc.?

Ok, I think I now understand what you are saying. For example, if a widget, including VAT, is selling for 100 pounds, you are thinking that the VAT should be 20 pounds (100 x 20%) and therefore you should pay 80 pounds for the widget. Am I correct on this?

However, this logic isn't correct. If a widget, inclusive of VAT, is selling for 100 pounds, the widget without VAT would be 83 pounds (100 / 1.2). Thus, you get your your 17% discount (100 minus 17 equals 83.) If you now calculate the price with the VAT it becomes 100 (83 x 1.2). There is some rounding, but I have ignored that.

The moral of the story is that you cannot multiple a price which is inclusive of VAT by 80% and expect to get the pre VAT price. You must divided the price inclusive of VAT by 1.2 to get the price without the VAT,
