Please give me your input on how these made-to-measure pants fit sitting down. They flare out around the calves only when I sit down. Sometimes when I stand up, I have to pull them down.

I talked to the tailor and he said he has never had this complaint and told me to stand up as that is the "acid test." He thinks the flair is not an issue, but I do not think it is normal. I paid nearly $2000 for these two suits and both have pants that flair out like this.

Normal. They’re catching on your calves when you sit because they’re cut slim, i am guessing you also have largeish calves. Happens to me on slimmer trousers like suit supply, esp when I am wearing taller socks (more friction between the thickest point of my calf and the trousers). I once made the mistake of wearing otc socks with slim flannel trousers, never again.

Hike the trousers up a bit as you sit to avoid stretching the fabric. Do the stanky leg when you stand up to shake them down. Or just walk four or five steps which usually accomplishes this same goal.

Only real solution is fuller-cut trousers, which won’t have this problem to the same extent. (Some amount of pulling as you sit down is virtually inevitable given, like, physics and friction and stuff. But more room in the pants means less pulling of this type in my experience.) And I am guessing you wanted slimmer trousers in the first place.

Also consider parting with those socks. The horizontal stripey trend was unfortunate.

I have attached another photo from the top view. I understand why they are flaring, but why would they flare inside that way? Given they are made-to-measure, should the tailor not compensate for my calf size? And yes, I am wearing non-dress socks with these pants right now.

I mean, the tailor could cut the trousers fuller, sure, but then he’d have people, maybe including you, complaining about the unfashionable baggy trousers. Either the trousers have enough fullness through the thigh and calf to easily accommodate all the shifting and stretching when you sit down or they don’t. And if they do, they probably aren’t fashionably slim. Life is full of trade offs.

(If you ask me, the answer is to embrace the superior drape and comfort of fuller cut trousers, but that isn’t really an option in your situation given that you’ve got a pair of slim trousers.)

Fuller trousers but I suspect that they are disgusted by being paired with those socks.
