Thoughts on floor lamps? Looking to set one in the new library between a lounge chair and a desk, so it could be used for either. There is an overhead Nelson bubble lamp over where the lounge chair is going.

Lightology is having a nice sale on the Tolomeo Mega floor lamp. I think it's like 45% off in the 17" parchment shade.

Edit: Actually, they're all on sale. The one I mentioned is like 50% off with no tax and free shipping.

Thank you! Not sure I understand what your asking, could you be more specific?

It looks like the canvas with the wood back piece (not sure what that's called) is attached to the frame, and there obviously isn't any glass. What is this kind of framing called? And, is it done simply for the look?

I judge a couch on how comfortable it looks for napping. I approve :fonz:

It is very comfortable. The headrests go up, and it's wide enough for sleeping on. But I'm worried about the fabric.

Nice, simple style looks nice.

The sofa? Yeah, I like the look. I just don't know how long the fabric will hold up with regular use (I have two kids), and I'm suspicious the articulating headrests are some newfangled gimmick that'll break. My wife has a carefree attitude about it's durability and thinks a few years of use should be enough.

This is one of the ones I was looking at. Just debating if an arcing lamp like that is the best bet or multiple arms or more of an ambient/shade style lamp. I think I can safely rule out torchiere lights.

I have the Mega. It's a nice, architectural lamp that works well with both modern and mid-century furniture. Just make sure your ceilings are at least 8.5' or it looks cramped.

I always thought leather would be more prone to damage than fabric. Unless you're referring to stains

Good point. Ceilings are 9' but it is sloped on the side the lap is going. Goes from and 4.5 to 9 in about 2 ft.

Tolomeo mega puts out a lot of light, I have a few tolomeo lamps and sold them for years I think they're pretty awesome. I also like Louis Poulsen PH series lamps, especially with glass shades. For metal shade lamps, the AJ (Arne Jacobsen) lamp is cool. The Kaiser Idell lamp is really nice, nearly made and high quality. The floor lamp is a bit tippy on anything other than hard floors. I also like a lamp from DWR called the Mantis lamp.

Jasper Morrison's 'Glo-Ball' is also a great lamp and puts out a lot of light.

Ahh, yeah it is not required structurally and so it basically just covers the overlapping corners of canvas over wooden stretchers. Some people just hang the canvas on stretchers as is, but these frames provide a finished look. In the case of the above art, that is actually board on a wooden stretcher, the artist wanted to see the entire work without losing any of it behind matting. In this case the frame is really helpful in covering the exposed edges of the board to avoid damage to it and neatens up the edge.

If you don't want to spend huge amounts of money on a floor lamp, I don't think you can go far wrong with the classic Anglepoise. We have the Type 75, and it's great: https://www.anglepoise.com/product/type-75-floor-lamp

I’d go for one of these. :-D
