Confused about NYC and Shoes. Some help?

All,
I just moved to NYC from sunny CA. I will be working in a place where business casual is accepted (and I am also trying to dress nice.) I have no sense for how wet/snowy things get here but the man at the Allen Edmonds shop told me to put away my PA shoes till it gets less wet. Does anyone have suggestions for classy (ish) boots? Think something that goes well with slacks/Jeans but I don't mind if it is a stretch for suits.

Some things that I have liked but would love some advice on.

1. Haight Dress Boots from AE (They are marked at a lower price and have a rubber sole. )

2. Promontory point boots. This looks slightly rugged but good as well.

3. Wolverine men's 1000 mile boot. I like how simple it looks but not sure how it will stand the wet, salt and slush that I have seen here in the few days I have been here.

Also, what color should I get? The only other 'boots' that I have Clark Desert Boots in beeswax which after today should probably be retired till whenever this city sees summer.

Here are a few choices.

1. Galoshes/Swims/Overshoes
2. Bean Boots
3. Dainite sole with storm welt. Water doesn't really affect leather too bad (unless it gets soaked), but water inside the shoe can rot away gemming. Leather soles erode very fast when wet. Salt will kill your shoe if not brushed away promptly.
4. Topy your shoes. Will save your soles, but water can still get through the welt.
5. Get a pair of beater shoes (my choice).

Thanks for responding, so reg. 3., I found that my CDBs get soaked in this mucky weather. I am not sure if I can spend time brushing them at work. I am still not clear what to look for when getting beater shoes. I could just roll with old shoes that I have but every damn one of them seeps water like hell.

If you want something waterproof, just go with bean boots and bring a pair of shoes in your bag if you want to switch at work.

Finally decided to go with the Bean Katahdin boots. Thanks for your help jaywhyy!
