I have a Database in FileMaker Pro and one in Word.

Is there any way to merge them without having to cut and paste one entry at a time into FileMaker?

Alternatively, I understand Excel WILL import directly into Filemaker. Is there a way to convert Word to Excel that doesn't require cutting and pasting individual entries?

You can write a macro to go between office apps, how easy that would be depends on how well formatted your word doc is.

Can you post a sample of the data from your Word database so we can get an idea of the format you're working with?

I believe you can. It's been a while since I've done it but in Excel you should be able to import the data (I forget where the import tab is). This should be able to be done directly or you might have to convert the data in ACSII comma delimited (via NotePad) prior to importing to Excel. It's been a long long time so I hope I am not giving you false info but considering it's nearly 2AM local I figured I'd just throw it out there, in case you were up just

Good luck!

If it's a uniformly tabbed or comma delimited database you can just import it into excel. If it's comma delimited just save it as a .csv file then open it up in excel and do what you have to. Otherwise when you import the file it will ask about any spacing.....I would go through it right now, but I use open office instead of MS so the procedure isn't the same. I actually had to do this for my roommate last week.

Here's one on the entries:

Bill Walker
Bill Walker Clothier
1141-01 Uptown Park Blvd
Houston, TX 77056

They're all done in paragraph form. Unlike this one, most have phone numbers as well.

If the data is regular and separated by a blank line each time and the name, company, address, phone number are always in the same order, you can either send me your file or I can write you a script that will convert it.
