I refuse to consume any products with aspartame. I'd rather just drink less soda than have that mess in my system.

The FDA's own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross told Congress that without a shadow of a doubt, aspartame can cause brain tumors and brain cancer and violated the Delaney Amendment which forbids putting anything in food that is known to cause Cancer.

"When Donald Rumsfeld was CEO of Searle, that conglomerate manufactured aspartame. For 16 years the FDA refused to approve it, not only because its not safe but because they wanted the company indicted for fraud.

"Donald Rumsfeld was on President Reagan's transition team and the day after he took office he appointed an FDA Commissioner who would approve aspartame. The FDA set up a Board of Inquiry of the best scientists they had to offer who said aspartame is not safe and causes brain tumors, and the petition for approval is hereby revoked. The new FDA Commissioner, Arthur Hull Hayes, over-ruled that Board of Inquiry and then went to work for the PR Agency of the manufacturer, Burson-Marstellar, rumored at $1000.00 a day, and has refused to talk to the press ever since.

+1 on aspartame, it's sketchy and it gives me a stomachache anyway.

To the previous page, an SAT question/answer:

pizza + water : angry :: pizza + beer : happy

Coke Zero is great. Diet Coke is liquid puke.

I was pleasantly surprised that many eateries in Paris/London offered Coke Zero, as I've never seen it on the menu in LA.

My wife has started drinking Coke Zero and says it tastes much better than Diet Coke. She's a fan of regular Coca-Cola and she feels Coke Zero is the closest to regular Coke that she's found.

Wise words. Accept no substitutes.

The problem with Diet Coke is that it has nothing to do with regular Coca-Cola; it's a totally different formula (aka "Tab Cola") and tastes like dirty ass. Coke Zero is the same as regular Coke, but with aspartame instead of sugar. It would be even better if they made it with Splenda.

Fake sweeteners just trick your body and make you crave real sweets. Real sweets and fake sweets are useless to your body, drink unsweetened tea or black coffee.

GS, I've got to disagree here, but let me also add something: I'm probably not the normal beverage drinker. Coke is way too sweet for me to drink, and I think Coke Zero tastes to sweet even though it has artifical sweeteners. I much prefer Diet Coke (or Diet Coke with grenadine at restaurants, which I know defeats the purpose) to Coke Zero. I know you like Diet Pepsi Jazz and I've tried all of those. I still prefer Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper and Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr. Pepper. Also, Diet Sunkist FTW.

Altogether I've cut most of the diet soft drinks out of my diet and I'm mostly sticking to bottled water with occasional Diet Cokes.

xchen, I am right there with you.

I have significantly reduced my soda intake over the last few months, but I will always choose Diet Coke over the standard Coke. I find the flavor and sweetness of Coke brutally intense. When drinking Coke, I can rarely finish an entire can in one sitting without feeling negative results. This is not an issue with Diet Coke, which is much more tame.

Cut down on your cola consumption. Only add a splash to your rum with a nice lime wedge.
