Although it's not "of the moment" as it was D-squared S/S 2006 I think it's still a pretty cool jacket.

Not a coat but related to the "stagnant style" topic, here's something that I sometimes wear during summer to break up the monotony, feel free to hate

I can't hate anyone with the guts to wear that.

Hmm.. I never understood those who say Prada spent hundreds of millions on those companies just to "destroy" them and get rid of some competition. I mean, would either brand have the financial muscle to even survive on its own throughout the '00s? For instance, I've been told pre-Prada HL was a ***** to deal with as boutiques had to commit to really huge orders just to get an account, which kinda hurt them since the whole 90's minimalism wasn't really compatible with the trends at the time anyway.. Sander didn't make much bank either as they based the entire business on the clothing lines only--like HL; no successful high margin bags, accessories or stuff like that. Shifting all the blame on Prada seems so one-sided imho.

Prada was trying to compete with Gucci Group and LVMH in acquiring brands back in the dot com boom era. Since Helmut Lang and Jil Sander were close to their own aesthetics, I suppose it made sense to buy them out. Jil Sander was an extremely difficult designer to deal with as was Helmut Lang; both liked to use expensive materials like woven silver fabrics and conceptualize designs that would never sell. I recall it was Helmut Lang's Jeans line that really made any money. Its fragrance line also lost a lot of money. Fantastic Man magazine, started by the editors of BUTT and Re-Magazine, has a nice interview on Helmut Lang in their latest issue.

I saw a stack of copies of that issue in, of all places, American Apparel's SoHo store. I have never seen a more breathlessly vapid pile of refuse.

It's much better than most magazines, I feel. It doesn't have any ads although the "original" design is lifted from a vintage Roger Black schematic.

There's a hidden button under the lapel to turn the blazer into a mandarin collar, I never do that though as it enters Japanese quiz show host territory.

If worn unbuttoned with a plain white tee, some dark jeans and white vans slip-ons it is quite wearable actually. Not to say its not flashy or anything but a black/white/grey/brown palette gets boring after a while.

So anyone get a wacky item they own/think is cool?

I'd wear that--with an entirely black outfit and brown shoes, maybe from Edward Green, just to upset the sartorial conservatives.

Add a navy tie to match the black shirt and you're all set.

My oddball possession are my red ck collection tapered squared/pointy loafers. So many people have broken their necks doing double takes when I'd wear them out. They actually look quite nice and I don't buy things that aren't pleasing to the eye. Does this suffer the same fate as the velvet blazer?
