Thanks Chouan and all previous posters.

I will probably be going for a navy suit (certainly not black or brown), no braces, no tie with either a white or probably a pale blue shirt and stuffed in pocket square.

Just out of interest, I assume the pocket square should not be the same colour as the shirt? would it look of to match the shoe colour

I would suggest that it should be a different colour to the shirt, or be loudly patterned such that it looks different enough to not be mistaken for a match. The shoe colour shouldn't make any difference.

Can do, but it isn't important, in my opinion. Depends upon the shoes I suppose!

What is the nature of the function - networking would suggest something more relaxed. So, consider a lighter coloured suit and certainly no braces. If it is going to drift on into the evening then coats will all but certainly be taken off by 4pm.
