Dear All,

I will be attending a Christmas Lunch celebration at Scotts in Mayfair in December. Here is a link to the restaurant:-

It will be a fabulous lunch but perhaps with some business discussed. It will be lunch and then onto the bar

There is the delicate situation that I believe most Men will be attending will be in suits and some with ties. I'm personally not a fan of this look as I don't think it will suit the occasion or the venue. If I was going with a partner and not as part of a party I may wear a sports jacket and smart jeans. It seems that perhaps items 3,4 or 5 may be inappropriate for the venue, even though others may be suited with a tie.

I would appreciate some thoughts on what I should consider wearing, my current thinking is:-

1. Navy blue suit with a light pink open necked double-cuffed shirt, pocket square (probably colourful) with chesnut wholecut shoes and a brown belt.
2. Option 1 with a white open necked double-cuffed shirt.
3. Black suit with a light pink open necked shirt, pocket square (probably quite low-key) with black Oxford shoes and a black belt.
4. Option 3 with a white open necked double-cuffed shirt.
5. Option 3 with a blue open necked double-cuffed shirt.

Thanks and I would be grateful for all suggestions.

If one is to eat at a Grande Dame style establishment, why not wear a tie I suppose? Scotts is pretty old school.

Of the above options, I would vote #2. Definitely no black suits.

Many thanks.

On the small matter of the pocket square, I would appreciate advice on colour and also folding pattern

If you wear a navy suit w/ white shirt, you can wear literally any colour pocket square you want.
In terms of fold - I generally prefer a casual pouf with patterned squares. Looks less fussy.

Thanks Gents,

I was going to go with a navy suit with a white shirt. When it comes to pocket square I will go for a puff look, but was thinking that I should perhaps use the pocket square to glitz up the occasion, it being christmas, or to go for something that matched the style of the restaurant.

The style should match you, not the restaurant ... just to avoid being confused with a waiter ;-)

If you have cufflinks with color in them, chose a pocket square that picks up that color. A nice paisley or madder patterned pocket square will be good. Agree with the navy suit. Could even envision the light pink shirt (presuming the pocket square picks up this color). Have fun!

Cheers gents, I am thinking the pink shirt, sparkly multicoloured (with pink) cufflinks and matching pink pocket square (not 100% matching) would lighten the look a bit, especially being christmas and all.

Sorry guys, just to confirm, do we think that a navy suit, light pink shirt and light pink pocket square (very similar colour to the shirt) would look ok?
