Average service loaner probably drives someone from the dealer to work, work to dealer, repeat the next day with a new customer.
Some of them on longer repairs will see overnight use, but that's probably just normal committing still. Most people aren't taking them on road trips and even people who frequently drive long distance for work likely schedule planned maintenance for days when they aren't on the road.
Rental cars have always scared me..."drive it like a rental" and all, but by all accounts they can actually be very good buys. They follow the service schedule strictly and while the occasional person might hoon on them, most renters are just using them to get to the hotel and go to meetings or see some attractions...
