The whole point is moot, Elon is a snake oil salesman and a pathological liar. They haven't delivered self-driving cars despite promising it for almost a decade, they have been super delayed in delivering every car they promise. Elon's 1 year is the same as Trump's next week.

The roadster was a cash grab when Tesla was near broke.

I wish the media would stop gobbling up his bullshit and just ignore him.

You’re also failing to factor in the use of prep on drag strips. The adhesion is strong enough to pull your shoe off if it isn’t tied tightly enough. Go watch Engineering Explained’s videos about acceleration to understand why 1s 0-60 is not possible for a wheel-driven street car.

I feel like we're talking pass each other, are we talking about Musk over exaggerate then fail to deliver (or I guess in this case "yet" fail to deliver) or it is "physically impossible" for a road car to go 0-60 under 1 second.

If it's the 2nd, I want to understand the assumption goes into those calculation, and how far away are we from them. Just not very clear to me why we're already hitting the limit.

this is basically a kit car, I assume student group's tire isn't that special, surface doesn't look prepped to me, power to weight ratio is not something we manage today in a road car, but for exotics maybe like 2~3x away, doesn't seem crazy far away from reality

p.s. holy cow top fuel does 0-60 under 0.5 second...

that's list of what's currently being done, as long as we're not saying it's physical impossible...

Rivian R2 to be revealed in two days. Pricing leaked with them starting at $47k before tax credit and a 330 mile range. I have concerns about the long term health of the company but this could be a killer electric SUV.

I'd rather get the new Land Cruiser or Lexus GX.

It's going to undercut the Land Cruiser by about 9k and if it shares the DNA of the RS1 will be a ver capable off road machine.

My main concern is the company managing to become profitable and stick around in the long term. That or selling itself to one of the major car brands.

I’m hoping for an EV Sienna with that 900 mile battery Toyota is working on.

That said, our neighbor has a Fiskar Ocean, which seems nice too.

I just want to get a LC or GX because they look fvcking awesome now. I don't ever plan on going off roading in either.

I'm going to need to replace my Porsche with a family hauler sometime this year and seriously considering either a LC or GX.
