Well, the incomparable Yenni of Brick + Mortar has made this shoe nerd’s dreams come true by allowing me to collaborate and running my design. What started as some discussions in January 2023 is now a reality.

“The Sumner” has landed.

Tan Alpine Grain
Grant Last
Flat Welt
Antique Edge
Double Oak Outsole
9 Brass Eyelets

A tribute to my grandfather, Sumner—Papa Sonny.

I ordered two pairs for myself. Can’t wait for them to arrive.

Thanks for letting me be part of this great online shoe community, too. I look forward to what’s on all of your beautiful feet every day.

Have to agree with ShawnC...great looking boot you designed there..might have to drop hints as to my upcoming birthday gift(s). 😁

I will say however that given my middle age man back, I'm a big fan of speed hooks on boots. 🤪

I need to source one of those, love the Modified last. Also the combination of PTB and shell go really well together.

If you're interested, I can stop by the shop and see if they have your size. Pretty sure all they carry are E width so you'd be stick with that even if they have your proper length. And as they were getting rid of them in March, they're probably down to their last few pairs by now.. so chances there might not be good..but I'd be happy to stop in and take a quick look if you like

That would be incredibly helpful, appreciate it! Assuming it’s not a burden for you of course.

I’m usually a 8D on the Modified Last, but with these I’d probably go 8E or 8.5D, to wear with thicker socks.

Not a burden at all. I'm in the city often and go past the shop just about as often. I should be able to pop in Monday (Tuesday latest) and let you know what I find.

I was reading the comment about TSM and Pelleline. Them saying they are not legit..SMH...
I never had a good experience with Shoemart, customer service sucks! For Aldens there are many great small retailers I'll give my money to over TSM. Just looked at Pelleline looks like a solid sale. Are they just giving up on Alden?

Yeah it's more than a solid sale. It's a complete clearance sale. That's why expecting another retailer to price match was a wild ask. They're literally clearing all Alden out and ending carrying them (why, I do not know).

Rule of thumb is that Aldens don't go on significant sale almost ever, unless a retailers unique style is being cleared out for the year/season/run, then you can land a low sale price.

Any discount across the board of every model, esp stock Alden models, is a clearing the deck sale to purge all inventory, usually d/t d/c Alden shoes at that location, or for a going out of business sale.

I am sure there are a few exceptions, but this has been my observation after 11 years of watching.

Agree. Wearing Alden for 20 years and only sale I remember is getting them from Brooks Brothers in past or Jcrew.

Other retailers closing/ending alden relationships made for some clearance sales too, like Need Supply or Unionmade, but generally even JCrew sales are related to online coupons being applicable to Aldens as a snafu on their part. At least, historically thats been the case.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday. The last of the rare shell makeups I was fortunate enough to acquire has arrived. The Ravello Tanker.

Hey all, picked up my first pair of Alden suede loafers (6221L) in 8.5D.

Normally wear a 9D in AE, sizing guide recommended a half size down. Tried these on yesterday when they arrived and my pinky toe is visibly bulging out.

Never had this issue before. Assuming with no structure that these will break in and that will become less noticeable?

I had Rancourt custom make a moc in 8.5D that is almost too loose now after a year of wear. Are these the same?

Heel is nicely snug. I called Alden and the guy advised a 9C. Feels like a more narrow width on a shoe that’s already narrow enough to have this bulge would be a bad idea, no?

Figured I’d ask this group what you think. Keep and break in or send back? I also bought a 9D to compare, but it is too loose in the front of the foot. If it stretches at all, it would be way too loose.
