Looking at wheels and tires at the moment right now. I need 235/40R18 front and rear. I need an exhaust because the OEM is cut at the rear axle. Thinking magnaflows since I've always been a fan of them. The Only two mods. Everything else that needs to be done is resto work (mechanical and body). My dads my mechanic so he replaced the fan clutch, Master cylinder, and put frion in the A/C (which needs to be looked at again because she wants to over heat during these hot times when its on now). So I drive with the windows down for now.
Re-reading this post. while tipsy, but not sleepy.
What do you mean about the A/C and the overheat?
The engine overheats? or the A/C is not working properly? If your cabin is getting hot it would be the heater core. (had this with my Celsior)

I've had cars as a kid that overheated terribly if I ran the AC (looking at you Ford Escort). Come to think of it, I lived without AC for years. Nowadays it seems I drive with it on through November.

Some things. each system is it's own thing.
heating is a system. A/C is a system.
Then you have keeping the engine happy.

They are isolated.
Your engine should be happy. trans and diff too.
Done? Ok. bleed the water set. . run with heater on. and off. look for leaks..
Then degas the A/C replace all O-rings. gas up.

Does your GTI have automatic climate control? That's one of the ~3 features I'm sad they skimped on in the US rabbit edition. Can't just set a temp and let the car decide...and I feel like I'm constantly in between fan settings or at the place where the AC is a little too cool but the outside is too hot.

for the fuckload of money i probably paid for my car's climate control system, all i really want in the end is one single dial to make it feel more blue or more red, and then another dial for how fast to blow the air and one to show where to blow the air.

I don't even want a traditional radio, just a giant dial for any volume need, and then a screen to connect my phone to Car Play.

features that are indeed great:
lane keep aid. on the highway i use it to be lazy.
360 cameras. because i have to parallel park a large SUV in NYC. these things are seriously helpful.

Sadly no climate control.

Alright Dubby, I have been thinking on it. (was late last message)

I Think i worked it out.

Your A/C condenser is in front of the radiator yes?
It's hot where you live. and there really is no cruising, more stop/start traffic type driving?
That's a fairly crowded engine bay also.

With the A/C on, you are heat soaking air that then flows by the radiator. making it actually not cool. so in traffic you are getting almost zero cooling to your engine with the condenser working.

Remedy?
Step 1. Use a garden hose, and a strong cleaner like simple green, run water through the condenser and radiator. can you see through it? if yes?
Some new universal fans could be the fix for you.

If you are still getting heat soak, you might want to customize with a smaller, more efficient and modern condenser, then locate it low and to the front. as you would mount an intercooler or oil/trans cooler.
so at least one fan is getting cool air through the radiator.

It's all good man. A/C is something i am able at.
I hope your dad agrees, that freeing up Cool air and relocating the condenser is an idea.
Also, you could have the regular Rad fans doing their thing. but a fan on the condenser set differently. so as to not draw too much power.
If your dad posts in here as you? I'll work with him.

Here to help.
