Mrs. Piob had an XC90 about 10 years ago when the model was fairly fresh. I think it says something about the initial design that it went around 15 years without a redesign. All the reviews I've read pretty much rave about it except for the engine but that's going around these days in this class of vehicle (luxury import SUV/crossover).

I really dug the taillight design on those. I oddly like some old Volvos. It might be because the first of my friends to turn 16 had a Volvo 240DL. It had a manual sunroof that we tried to put a model rocket launcher on and control it from the rear seat.

His sister inherited the car when we went off to college and promptly put it into a tree.

About half of our middle/high school plans succeeded and the other half were always fun because of the failures.

Back then late 90s, most of my friends (myself included) couldn't afford remotely nice cars so we tended to have fun with whatever we had. I had a 1988 Corolla and my friends had other random old cars.

The 240DL earned the nickname of the 'dumpster pusher'. We dared my friend in really cold weather to push a dumpster late one night behind the place he worked. He said sure and literally moved it around the parking lot quite a bit. The next day, his boss found it pushed to a business a few hundred feet down and called him while we were cracking up.

I was the introverted dork and my job was to top that. I found out this little electronics store in St. Louis called Gateway Electronics (well thanks to my dad) that sold tiny electric motors and my friends and I liked model airplanes. I could code a decent PID controller so we figured out, there was a small chance to modify the Estes rocket fins and the Volvo's sunroof to have it take off and land while driving. It never panned out well.

Walking home just now and saw an absolutely mint SL600. One of my favourite modern Mercedes, hands down.

The first car I bought was a 240DL. It lasted over 10 years, but it got to a point where it needed more in repairs than it would have been worth-- I unloaded it to our service station guy who dealt a little on the side.

The replacement was a XC70, which did fine until it got totaled. (Long story.) The successor to that one (another XC70) lasted maybe 6 years and then the dashboard refused to work reliably. So we traded it in post-haste for a Subaru and never looked back.

Outback. 3 1/2 years, something like 56,000 miles. (It's the daily steed for our housekeeper, among other things.)

Wowza. So glad I stored my car and took the A4. We're getting pummeled with snow.

Okay, XC90 is an awesome vehicle in its class. Lease parameters ******* suck. 3 year/45k miles = 50% residual and the MF is 4.2%.

Nicely dressed, mid 60s.

Driver experience is awesome. The dashboard, the UI, all really incredible. Great electronics, highly customizable dash and video display. The supercharged/turbocharged engine works, in "performance" mode it's quite acceptable and in the low 6s for 0-60 and has all it needs to highway merge and pass.

Haven't worked through numbers vs. competitors yet but from a purely driving experience it's teh shiznit.

What are you used to getting from Mercedes? Those numbers are in Porsche and Audi's ballpark, but worse than BMW's. Of course, no one is gonna beat bmw

Well, my current GL lease is 60% residual with a 1.1% MF.
