Carefully dyeing buttonhole threads?

Hi all,

I recently had a sports jacket MTM and the only thing I wish I had done differently was choose a different color thread for the lapel buttonhole and the fourth sleeve buttonhole. The jacket is made from charcoal fresco, and I chose a too-light color (light blue, almost white) for the buttonholes. It stands out too much, I would like a more subtle color.

It occurrred to me that I might very carefully apply some kind of dye to the threads, but I wanted to ask here in case anybody has ever considered something like this before.

Thanks in advance,

Eric Z

I would ask a tailor to redo the button hole.

I've colored the stitching on a baseball cap using a Sharpie. I'd probably try that with great care... but having the buttonhole redone does sound safer.

Thanks guys. First I'm going to keep the fourth button buttoned instead of loose, and try a lapel pin. Maybe that will tone down the effect. After some time, if I'm still annoyed, I'll see about having hem resewn or maybe I'll carefully try the Sharpie manoeuvre on the back of the lapel to see if it's safe.
