Spent yesterday at the mall driving shoe salesmen nuts! I confirmed my 9.5d brannock size and proceeded to try on shoes from different makers. Ended up snagging these Gucci bit loafers in a 8.5, which appear to fit like a 9.5 (maybe UK size?) Anyway, they're supremely comfortable and look pretty slick! Brooks Brothers Peal & Co. (relabeling?) penny loafers fit perfectly in a 9.5D and this fugly "1818" Oxford fit perfectly in a 9D (very long last). Ferragamo appears to rung long and the 8.5 medium fit comfortably snug. I realized that my AE shoes in 9.5D (Lake Forest) that I thought were a bit big were actually meant to be looser fitting (who the hell wants deliberately big-fitting shoes lol) and that this skewed my perception of sizing. I realized that I don't have a serious low arch problem.
The key to a great shoe fit is as simple as trying different sizes on and going with your gut...brannock is a starting point and not much else.
Anyway, some shoe Appreciation for y'all!
My new Gucci kicks in 8.5 medium UK size
And these 1818 Oxfords in a 9.5D, which seemed a bit too long and wide (no lace gap) and gaping around ankles. Do these look too big?
