Calling all Jos A. Bank employees

I've been wondering about this for a while: Do Jos A. Bank employees receive employee discounts on top of store promotions? I've heard some employees complain about the employee discount, so I'm guessing that it's an either or deal. Feedback?

I'd hate to be the JAB employee who works there for the discount.

Nothing on top of the promotions I'm afraid. The best they offer is 50-75% off retail once each season in addition to the chance to buy shoes at cost price (limit of 2 pairs per employee). In JABs case, the employees shop at the same time customers do.

It was like this at Brooks. You either got your discount (40%-50%) or the promotional price, never both.

Why isn't it at cost? When I worked at Circuit City back in the day, you could buy products at the store's cost. Some great deals to be had . . .

I don't believe that's true. At most retail stores that I'm familiar with, employees receive discounts on top of store promotions. Of course, most of those retail stores don't get close to discounts that Jos A Bank offers, and most sell products that are so over-priced that 20-30 percent employee discounts on top of promotions still lead to profit. I'm assuming that wouldn't be the case for a 70% off JAB suit with an additional 50% off employee discount tacked on. That's a shame.

That would be a very fair way to deal with employees. Though, I doubt that anyone would argue that retail companies are generally fair to store-level employees.

A fabulous place to work is Dillards. I worked there selling shoes for about 2 years through college. We would go and pick out what we want once it came in and hide the stuff in empty shoe boxes or on the shelves in the back. Eventually the item would go 75% off and once the season clearance sale came we got an additional 50% off of that. Not to mention we got an additional 25% off of that as an employee discount.

I truly bought brand new Cole Haan shoes 90% off and new polo shirts for $7-10. Kinda crazy when you think about it. I think I spent more than I made!

Maybe it's because they stopped selling to employees at cost, haha

That's grounds for termination right there.

You are not alone!

Even though I don't and have never worked in a retail stores, I know many cases of employees hiding the cream of the crop and then buying at really low prices.

True, but I think that changed. Best/Worst Buy's discount was better at the time I switched to Circuit.

I worked for them way back when an dwe got our 40% off or the store sale which ever was better, I don't know if things have changed now but I doubt they have.
