Brown shoes + Brown suit = Too much?

Black shoes go fine, IMO with lighter navy and lighter, richer browns. I wouldn't wear a black shoe or belt with a very dark brown suit - mostly because I think you want distinguishable contrast between the two, and very close shades looks like a failed attempt to match. I feel the same way as regards dark "midnight" navy suits and black shoes.

Though I'm sure some of you stylish bastards can pull it off.

I think it's standard in Navy uniforms (well, except for aviators anyhow).

Totally off subject, but what's with all you guys using the same avatar (manton, grimslade, why)? I can't tell you apart.

I'm a huge fan of the burgundy color with any gray-colored suit. I have a light-gray pinstripe suit that I wear with a burgundy belt and shoes and it looks amazing! Yeah, I could wear black, but that is just too boring. I highly recommend utilizing shades of colors (like burgundy) when you're able to, it definitely sets you apart and states that you KNOW style.

I know, my sock game needs attention, but it's the only clean pair I had at the time:

Funny, but when I thought of a match for a brown suit, the idea of a dark navy shoe sounded good.

Is dark blue considered a mistake? Or just too foppish for work?

bris - that suit looks quite good on you. Is that one of your Phineas Cole pickups?

I assume it's brown given the thread, but I couldn't really tell - looks grey on my monitor

Thanks, it fits amazingly well.

It's PS but not PC, I forget the line name. They call it "Powder", it's a brown flannel with a light blue overcheck. Really nice hand. Retail tag was $1,800.

I couldn't fit into any of the Phineas stuff, it's way too slim in my regular size.

There are simply so many hues of brown and so many potential combinations, that I'm hardpressed to hew to any hard-and-fast rules along these lines. And if you happen to have a slate/stone khaki suit (no *********** chinos), check it out with some black shoes/belt. Maybe even a black linen tie. I think it's quite a striking look.

I don't thist the shoes you have picked out are too dark for that suit. It is more of a dark tan where the pants are a dark brown and the pattern in the really tine into the color of the shoe.
