A friend in London went to the downsized Swaine Adeney Brigg store in London to buy a Prince of Wales Malacca handle silk canopy umbrella because another friend bought one some years back. Apparently, years ago, the PoW umbrellas had gold plated noses (metal covering at the end of the handle) and collars. Now, they make them with solid sterling silver.
They screwed up my friend's order and put gold plate instead of solid silver.
The silver is slightly more expensive but they only make the gold plate noses/collars as bespoke orders now (which they somehow did even though my friend asked for the stock model).
Which would you choose - solid silver or gold plate?
