Briefcase Repair DC

A leather briefcase / messenger bag I purchased in Italy several years back succumbed to the weight of my laptop and the strap broke off on one end.

The metal attachment from the strap to the bag literally snapped. I think the metal attachment was previously part of the metal shank which runs along the top of the briefcase flap.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a place that could fix my briefcase? I imagine the shop would have to remove some stitching to get at the metal shank and then use a new shank or attach a new attachment.

Although I've never used them, I've gone into Lane's Luggage and the staff is friendly and seems pretty knowledgeable, plus they're near Dupont on Conn Ave which might be closer to you

I've had my bag fixed at the cobbler on G b/w 14th and 15th. Nice guy and it seems some people trust him with difficult stuff.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I'm looking forward to getting the briefcase repaired. The briefcase means a lot to me because I got it on a trip to Italy for one of our anniversaries.
