Hi,
I recently purchased a Superdry Blazer, it's great however it seems the cufflinks are sewn shut. Am I able to remove the stitching or is this purposeful?

Only shirts have cuff links.

These appear to be faux button holes and reflect the low quality RTW garment,

The vast majority of jackets, blazers, sportcoats and what have you do not have working cuff buttons.

It's strictly something you will see on high end bespoke wear.

And frankly, it's pretty damn pointless even on them. Most of the reason to have them is to leave one undone so as to say "I am rich enough to afford to have bespoke wear". Which 99.9999% of everyone will neither notice nor care about.

You really don't want them to be working on a ready to wear jacket. It makes shortening or lengthening the sleeves to the right length an enormous hassle. It's mostly a problem with mid-tier brands trying to show off (e.g. Club Monaco).

You can have a tailor remove the stitches, although you may still be able to see where the stitches were. This applies especially to cotton jackets. If you aren't going to change the length of the sleeves it's best to leave it alone.

Almost any jacket you'll buy off the rack has faux button holes like this. Even many nicer ones. If they're functioning it's usually a selling point but since you can't really adjust the sleeves if it's got them you need to be damn sure the jacket fits off the rack. With the faux buttons you can get it tailored very easily and it'll look better. RTW stuff like this is meant to be purchased and then altered. Most jackets with functioning buttonholes (AKA surgeon's cuffs) are MTM or Bespoke. If you've got them I would avoid doing the one button undone thing, it's tacky, especially if the garment isn't actually bespoke. I own some RTW stuff with surgeon's cuffs and I have all of them done up. It's more my little secret than something I want to advertise; the jacket wasn't made for me anyway and if it was it'd be all the more so a badass little secret.
