I do it with brown shoes that are even much lighter - EG Edwardian, Clifford Tan, etc. and I think it looks absolutely fine.

It works when done well in a muted ensemble, but it can fall flat, as everyone has said. I think the key is not to have too much contrast, so keep it to a rich, dark brown.

black pants + tan shoes is a classic combo. darker browns, however, do not work as well unless they have some sort of sheen to them i think.

+3 black/ charcoal slacks and tan shoes. Classic! Much better than black and dark brown- not enough contrast.

Agreed! It's a "crazy-sick" look when properly done. However, thought has to be applied; it can't just be thrown together.
