Not a pomade, but incredible hold and does the slicked-back well without excessive shine. Smells quite delectable, too, according to some of my women friends.

I'm trying to decide between Grant's pomade and Layrite Super Hold pomade.. which one has a stronger hold?

Also, anyone know any resellers in MA that carry these products?

I have Layrite, and it's the best pomade I've used. Definitely the best hold and it smells alright, too.

Be prepared to spend some $$ though, as you'll be using a lot of it.

Thanks for the response. I ended up purchasing both off of some website, but I bought the smaller version of the Layrite.

We'll see which one I end up liking more!

^ I got the smaller version, too, from FMC in NYC.

When I finish this, I'll most likely get the $18 tub and use that together with Murrays.

Layrite has a stronger hold than Grant's. Grant's is comparable, as it is a gel pomade that is water soluble. But, Donnie Hawley just got it down with Layrite. The only thing it's missing is some sheen. But if you like your hair to look matte, then it's all good. If your hair is wavy, Grant's won't straighten it out like Layrite will.

Cool Grease is cool (no pun,) but it is very expensive. When you get the little tub, and I mean little, it'll seem like you'll go through it within days. Layrite is a better buy, as it is 7oz for about $18, whereas Cool Grease will run you up to $35 for a small 3oz tub. They make a 7oz tub, and you'll be lucky to find it for a relatively decent price. And buy correctly, I bought the medium hold (orange/redish container,) and it doesn't hold my hair for the life of me. In short, for those wanting water soluble gel pomades, stick to either Grant's, Layrite, or another brand Suavacito. I have no personal experience with them, but I plan on ordering some within the next couple of weeks. Dax Super-Neat is also water soluble, and is choice if you're looking for a slick wet look, rather than a matte look that the other pomades will give you. Plus, it smells good.

I asked my barber what he recommends, and he pointed out that he had just done me up with Redken Rewind 06.
I like it and have a tub of my own on order.

I use Sweet Georgia Brown Red and Blue. It really is good IMHO. Red one isn't that strong but the blue one is strong enough for everything so far. Depends on the day and the purpose which one I use.

I've been using this one for years now and I quite like it. Pretty strong and doesn't really leave a greasy feeling in my hair, not too much shine or anything. Just hold with little scent.

The AGS product is a nice offering..... 40 is greasy and 90 is stiffer. Most are very affordable. Decriptions are accurate.

Highly recommend the hair tonics and aftershaves as well....
