Hi,
I'm new to the forum and I've been reading around quite a bit and it seems that everyone is quite nice.
In the past I never wore clothes that fit, my parents always bought clothes too big so I'd grow into them and that way they wouldn't have to buy new ones often. I played soccer for 12 years competitively then hit college and quit, got kinda fat, decided I needed to get back in shape. I started running and lifting weights. I lost about 30 lbs of fat and gained a bunch of muscle. I would still wear shirts / pants that were too big, until I met my fiance who showed me what fit a lot better and now I love clothes (Except dress shirts!, can't find any that fit well).
I went to Hong Kong and got 3 tailored shirts that fit well. I stopped working out really hard and lost some muscle mass in the shoulders / chest, but not significantly that these shirts do not fit, the chest is a little looser than I'd like, but not too bad. However, I cannot live on 3 custom shirts.
I'm 5'6" (5'7" on a good day ), 39" Chest, 31" waist (shirt mid size). Shoulders are about 17.5 - 18" from end of bone to bone, when I measure my tailored shirts, they are 18", but the seem is a bit off the shoulder bone, so closer to 17-17.5 would fit better.. Neck is 15"-15.5". Shirt sleeves I typically go with are 32/33.
30x30 pants for the most part fit really well. Depending on the brand sometimes they are a bit too loose or tight in the waist but the length is quite good.
I'm having a real hard time finding shirts that fit well... If I go with Calvin Klein the 15" neck and slim shirt, the shoulders fit well and the chest fits well (I'd like it a bit tighter but not much). The issue I have is the midsection/waist. BAGGY, from reading here that seems to be the issue for everyone. If I do the "military tuck", it looks good from the side, but I still get a bunch of fluff in the back which I've come to hate.
Perhaps my only route is a tailor and/or MtM shirts, but I figured I'd ask here to see what others have found.
I read a thread about Brooks Brothers Extra Slim shirts, and I need to find some time to go try those on and see how they fit. The measurements people have given have varied a bit, but it seems that the chest would fit perfectly and the waist is tapered, so perhaps that is the shirt for me.. assuming it fits.
Any help is much appreciated.
