Of course not. Darts serve the purpose of removing excess fabric from the lower back. They are an important factor in a properly fitting shirt.

Any above-average tailor can do this without using darts.

Darts allow contour and shaping. Without darts a shirt body is essentially two (consider the front as a whole single piece) flat pieces sewn together. No one is shaped flatly/like a block, so how else would you expect to get shirting fabric to lay flat over the contours of the back?

FWIW, my MtM shirts from a local guy don't have darts.

Darts serve a purpose, they do add nice shape to a shirt. I find them a bit annoying when pressing a shirt or wearing it. They're ok if you stand up the majority of the day, or if you wear braces and just want to get the excess fabric out of the way.

Rarely. I use them when you wouldn't think it is needed. When someone wants a very full chest because they want a very loose fit, yes there are clients like that, the darts take extra fullness out of the back on a very loose fit. Rarely do I use them on a trim shirt, I cut the back smaller than the front.
