Basic Question: What kind of jacket should I get?

I want something nice, something that can be paired with a seather and collared shirt for a dressy look. I was thinking a leather jacket, but it rains a lot where I live and I don't want it to get ruined after one downpour. For this reason, I would think wool or cashmere overcoats are out.

I am looking for something that can be dressy yet matches with jeans, and is waterproof, or at least as water-resistant as possible. Any suggestions?

You might look at a Loro Piana Storm System overcoat, which is treated to be water resistant.

I always thought that leather was good for wet climats; I have a leather kind of three button "sportcoat", and also a warmer leather jacket with zipper and a high collar that I wear turned up (it is zipped all the way up), and these are my preferred garments for rainy days. I have used them for years, and they still look OK. The warmer jacket I actually use over my suit on rainy winter days. Both are black, and I am thinking about getting a brown one, though.
