I went down to my favourite outlet shop today. They are a twinned operation. One side sells Italian clothes like Zileri, Cerutti 1881, Valentino, Ungaro. The other sells a vast array of shoes.

They were having their winter sale. I had a look at the clothes, but wasn't very impressed. Saw a Zileri Gruppo for about $900, which didn't really excite me. So I wandered over to the shoe warehouse.

Right. First off, these guys know nothing about shoes. They generally just stack boxes on the floor. So they have mixed up Santoni, Santoni orange FAM and Santoni tan FAM and charged similar prices for all of them. On top of that, they had 40% off their outlet price. So there were quite a few new Santoni tan socks for around $300-$400. For example, the black monks I have were $350. I tried on a pair of black chelsea boots which fitted very well, but I couldn't quite afford them at $410. There were some terrific chukka boots, but not in my size.

As well as the Santonis they have Moreschis, Prada, Tod's, D&G, Costume National, Allen Edmonds, Church's, Trickers and a bunch of others for 40-50% off outlet prices. Range is a bit limited, so you had to be lucky. Sadly I wasn't. (There was a gorgeous light brown tan sock wholecut I would have killed for but they only had it in 8.5).

Upstairs they have the ***-ends. These are shoes they have only one or two of, and you have to get really lucky here. If you do, you are REALLY lucky. 60% off outlet price, plus another 10% off that price now. These are generally in unusual sizes but I again saw Santoni FAM, Grenson, Church, Tricker, CN, Tod's and others. At these prices, there were FAMs at around $250. Sadly I didn't find anything for my elephant feet, although a pair of Trickers St James brogues for $225 almost fit.

I walked away rather disappointed. My wallet had a narrow escape, but I'm still dreaming of those tan-sock chelsea boots. Maybe if some money falls from the sky ...

CalDreamer,

If only I lived in Melbourne, instead of Brisbane.

I suspect that Brisbane ranks second only to Darwin in terms of Australian cities with appallingly poor access to good shoes...

1) Buy all Santoni FAMs using credit card
2) Sell on SF and on eBay
3) Pay credit card bill
4) Profit
5) Keep favorite shoes

BTW I don't mean to tease, it's just that I live so far away from the rest of you, I didn't think there'd be any point. These prices only last until sale stock is sold - their normal prices wouldn't be any better than what you can get.

If you seriously think you (or a proxy) can get here in the next few days, I'm happy to pass on the details.

Well, as an earlier poster pointed out, you can make decent money selling those shoes (especially the ***-end ones) here or on eBay. That's not to mention the free stuff you get by using your credit card.

It occurred to me. However the state of my credit card isn't the greatest, so I'd be limited in how many I could pick up and resell. Then there is the little matter of selling them on ebay.com.au. Nobody here knows Santonis and they wouldn't command a good price.

If I recall the ET wright/Sanders and Sanders crazy deal a few months ago.
He checked the stock, offered a few pics of some of the shoes, and we all paypal'd him funds, which depending if you have a debit card/credit card attached to your bank account, you would not have to worry about it.
Perhaps you can check on the stock, have them hold the common sizes and nice styles, and see what happens.
I would venture to guess the S.F. herd will go nuts.
