Asparagus, medium-rare strip steak, mashed potatoes with bacon bits.

Had some last night. Kobe beef steaks, with stirfried baby asparagus (using the 'fat' trimmed from the steak and a touch of sugar and salt). Very tasty.

An easy cooking tip: If you've got XL stalks and the ends are hard and not edible, just grab the stalk by the ends and bend it. It will snap by itself at the point of edibility. The doesn't really work with older stalks since they tend to loose their elasticity and might snap in half.

What sauces can be used for asparagus other than hollandaise? I have no metal bowl.

I was doing some research for next year's garden, and just about every gardening book I looked at says that asparagus *must* be eaten within 5 or 6 minutes of picking the stalks! Now, I've always been quite happy to eat it when picked the same day (there is absolutely no comparison between fresh asparagus from your own garden and the flown-in crap from Peru), but apparently I'm missing out on the 5-minute asparagus experience! Oh, and I particularly like grilled asparagus

A note to kwilk: Unless you as the expert know a way to do this properly, I do not recommend deep frying bacon. The fat/grease does not come out the way it does when you fry it. Thus you end up eating it all, and it tastes like crap. I know this because I went on a deep-frying binge once with chicken fingers, and ended up doing bacon as well, and it was terrible. Pork chops were similarly un-good.

Thats terrible.. the pee is the best part!

When I'm lazy I just put them in a baking dish with OO, pepper, sprinkle with sea salt and a little lemon juice.. tastes good and is very quick and easy.
