I mistook your meaning as the artist looks like a second rate Constable, not the artwork. Anyways, I like it. I like a lot of his studies.

Cool thread. Always been really into abstract expressionists, mostly Rothko. Anything that's just a sheer, overwhelming experience to be "in" is where it's at for me.

So I'm new to all this, looking to buy a Paul Klee print. What is the difference between Giclee, lithographs, etc? What is the best quality? And how do you guys feel about oil paint repros of famous works? Too gauche? Also, is there any benefit to an unstretched canvas vs. stretched? If both are available. Thanks.

One is made on an ink-jet printer, the other by smooth surface imprint. The only ones you should spend money on are those signed and numbered by the artist (preferably in small editions, definitely less than 300). Oil reproductions are silly, unless you get two or more of the same piece and hang them right next to each other with good frames and lighting. Stretched canvas is not a material. It means the canvas is on stretcher bars, and this is the better option because otherwise you will have to stretch it yourself (not as easy as it sounds) prior to hanging.

I'm really not a fan of most of that work, but I like some works by Barnett Newman and Robert Motherwell too.

I am considering buying one of two pieces. I don't really have space for either, so no consideration there. As an investment the photo collage makes more sense, but that isn't my primary concern.* It is also more expensive. Thoughts?





* I should add that I slept on the piece below because it wasn't my primary concern and I thought I could afford it later. The artists prices jumped about 5X in the next year so I guess it is some concern.

How big is #3? Like 28" x 16" or so?

#3 is big. 43.5 x 61.5 inches Sadly far out of my reach now.

The other two are about the same height and width and closer to what you guessed #3 was. The center of the eye is a small stone. I'm leaning towards that one. The artist is better known and her prices are climbing and I like it at least as much if not more than the sculpture, which is cheaper, but an unrepresented and new artist. No solo shows and I just kind of connected to it.

I like #1 in that case. Big prints are so much better than small prints.

^ Agree, as I suppose is clear from my house thread. I also like small sculpture however. #1 is also the prettiest artist, so I guess that clinches it.
