Are Scarves More Male or Female?

An interesting, if not very important, topic (and scarves aren't discussed much, period)...
Do you think scarves are more masculine or feminine? Do you see them (probably not this time of year) more often on men or women? Maybe this should have included a poll about members owning and wearing scarves - too late, but someone else can try that.

As an accessory I think it is gender neutral. Like shirts, it is the style and pattern that makes it gender specific.

I wear scarf during fall and winter, and I own over a dozen scarves of various colors, pattern, and material.

Is this a serious question? If you're a dude wearing a pink scarf with flowers or butterflies all over it, then yes, that particular scarf is feminine. If you're just talking about wearing scarves in general, that's like asking if wearing socks is more masculine or feminine.

When being worn in fall/winter as an aid in staying warm, I find a scarf gender-neutral. But, when worn by a male in fairer temperatures just for the sake of wearing a scarf, I find them extremely feminine and affected.

That sounds like the way many people would evaluate it.

A logical follow-up question is, Are only gray or other dull non-white neutrals (or plaids or patterns like that) deemed reliably masculine? Outside of formal dress (white scarves), that is, and more so if heavy-weight.

I have Pale Orange, Ox-blood, Burgundy, Moss Green, and Vivid Blue scarfs. Some are solid other are check. You don't have to be dull to be masculine. But they are all solid scarfs for cold weather, and not some flimsy gossamer silky thing for decoration.

Where I live I have heard people say guys with scarves are "metro" :sarcasm:

I only wear mine in the winter. I love them though. I don't see how something so practical can be considered anything but normal, but whatever.

That being said, I would never wear one when its warm. Nothing against those that do, but its not for me.

Scarves with penises attached are clearly male, but are probably worn by gay men more than straight ones.

I like wearing scarves. Though I suspect people think of me as effete when wearing scarves. In fact, I have gotten hit on by men while wearing scarves

You might want to stop hanging around West Hollywood then.

This happened on the east side of LA, where I am usually located I think things have gotten increasingly better for men and scarves, what with a slight revival of fashion in men's clothing. Still, it feels awkward when you are the only one wearing a scarf and then another guy spots you who is also wearing a scarf and he might be ****. but you can't tell because you are also wearing a scarf so maybe this means he thinks you are also ****.
